I'm excited to announce that I've been working diligently on the sequel to Wind Whisperer's amulet, the Silvaen Circle, and I'm nearly done with my first draft. I have to write one or two more chapters and then I'll be finished and jumping into the next book in the series. (I like to leave editing until I've been working on a new book for a while. Essentially, I put the book in a drawer for a while.) Here's a sneak peek at the Silvaen Circle:
While Kaiyennah kept watch in the tainted beastmen forest, she kept her mind busy looking at the stars through the tree branches. She remembered all the legends of the stars Zanasha and her mother had ever taught her.
Kanamara, the moon goddess, was the daughter of the star goddess Ahtoo Waheenay, who had placed all the stars in the sky like a good mother decorating her home. But she first had to steal the light from the sun god Ahtoo Rah.
Ahtoo Waheenay was a valiant goddess of the night. She had the special ability to hide in shadows, and where there is sunlight, there is always shadows.
Ahtoo Rah wore the sun on his forehead. He walked across the sky each day, visiting the people of his realm, who always had bits of light to share with the sun god. This kept the sun brightly lit in the sky. Ahtoo Rah didn’t acknowledge the shadows. This made it easy for Ahtoo Waheenay to steal the light. But it hurt her to touch the sun’s light, so she took a moon stone and formed it into the shape of a bucket to carry the light.
Even to this day, Ahtoo Waheenay still stole a little bit of light from the sun, put it in her moonstone bucket, and took it back to her night realm to add some light to a star whose light was weakening.
The stars all formed constellations that had names, and for the remainder of the night, Kaiyennah started on one side of the sky and named all the constellations. Zanasha had taught her a very long legend to help her remember them all. The legend spoke of the star goddess Ahtoo Waheenay and the people of her night realm where she ruled. Each star was a gift to a member of a family, and the family’s last name was the name of the constellation.
Kaiyennah yawned as she told herself the legend of the stars. Little by little, the moon Maramara made her way across the sky as Kanamara the moon goddess used her magic to move it so it wouldn’t be discovered by the sun god Ahtoo Rah. When dawn approached and the moon began to set, Kaiyennah nudged Vespeera’s mind to wake him up.
